If you are a woman, you should really study up on constipation. Don’t think it’s a glamorous topic to talk about? It may not be, but the truth is you are more likely than not going to have to deal with it. Here’s the truth about constipation and women, especially expecting women.

First, All women are more likely to have to deal with constipation than men. As a matter of fact, 39 percent of women get it. Part of the reason is because of the hormonal changes that women deal with every month. When the hormone progesterone is produced in the body, which happens during the second half of the menstrual cycle, that hormone makes the body more likely to develop constipation.

Then there is pregnancy. Once a woman is pregnant, she is most likely going to have to deal with pregnancy constipation relief periodically if not regularly. There are so many changes that happen in the woman’s body that can lead to this. First, and foremost, is the fact that the body is going to be digesting food more slowly. The reason for this is that the body is naturally slowing the digestive process to be able to pull more nutrients from the food since it is not only sustaining you, but a new life inside of you.

This slowing down of the digestive process gives the waste in your body more of a chance to dry out as it is being moved through your system. The drier it gets the more likely it is that some or all of it will get backed up or at least pieces will start to break off and stack up in the intestines and colon and may end up causing a need for pregnancy constipation relief.

The next causes of a search for pregnancy constipation relief are the other hormone changes in the body. Just like the progesterone in the second portion of the menstrual cycle can lead to constipation there are going to be a number of changes in hormones throughout the pregnancy and any of these changes and shifts can lead to bouts of needing pregnancy constipation relief.

Finally there are a number of vitamins and supplements that women are asked to take during their pregnancy to make sure they have a healthy baby. While this is great to be doing, some of those vitamins and supplements have a side effect of causing pregnancy constipation.
